Postpartum depression - general information

The Postpartum Stress Center serves the needs of women and their families who experience difficulties related to pregnancy, pregnancy loss and the postpartum period.

Postpartum Support International. The purpose of this organization is to increase awareness among public and professional communities about the emotional changes that women often experience during pregnancy and after the birth of a baby.

Depression After Delivery (1-800-944-4PPD). This organization provides support, education, information, and referral for women and families coping with mental health issues through pregnancy and the postpartum period.

Perinatal Psychiatry by Dr. Michael Block, a Psychiatrist in Melbourne, Australia. This website includes information on postpartum depression and birth experiences, expectations and experiences of parenthood, medication and medication side effects.

Attachment Parenting and Depression by Linda E. Katz, Ph.D.

Clinical Research Unit for Anxiety and Depression has lots of useful self-help tips and free downloadable treatment manuals (look in the shop). This group is internationally known for its work in anxiety.

Self-care Depression Program Booklet (based on the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy) from the University of British Columbia Department of Psychiatry "gives patients an overview of depression, explains how it can be effectively managed according to the best available research, and gives a step-by-step guide to changing patterns that trigger depression."

A New Day is a website looking for stories from moms who have suffered from postpartum depression. From the website: 'An inspirational book is being written to help moms recover from postpartum depression...not from medical professionals, but from "every day " mothers like you and me. A depressed, overwhelmed mother will be able to open the book to any page and receive immediate help and encouragement, not only from myself, but from any one of hundreds of women who've "been there."'
